Membership is free
Creating an account, browsing hangouts, joining hangouts and chatting with attendees are free. There is no paywall on membership.
The only charge every member may encounter is the one-time Identity Verification Fee described below.
Identity Verification Fee — $2.00 (one time)
- What it is: a one-time fee that covers the cost of your government ID and selfie check through Stripe Identity.
- When you're charged: when you choose to start verification. The fee is shown on screen before payment.
- Recurring? No. It does not renew and it is not a subscription or a membership fee.
- Refunds: The $2.00 identity-verification fee is separate from membership and is generally non-refundable once the Stripe Identity verification process has been initiated, because verification processing costs may already have been incurred. Exceptions may be made for duplicate or incorrect charges, technical billing errors attributable to the platform, or where a refund is required by law. Paying the verification fee does not guarantee successful verification.
Details of what the check involves are in the Verification Policy.
Optional host subscription
Where paid hosting is enabled for your account, the plan, price, billing frequency and what it includes are displayed before you subscribe. If you subscribe:
- billing recurs automatically until you cancel;
- the renewal date and amount are shown before purchase and in your account;
- you can cancel any time from your profile or through Support;
- cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and you keep access until then;
- we never pre-check consent to recurring billing.
Optional host subscription charges are billed for the period you selected. You can cancel at any time and keep access through the end of the current paid period; we do not generally refund partial periods, except for duplicate or incorrect charges, technical billing errors attributable to the platform, or where a refund is required by law.
How payments are processed
Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details are submitted directly to Stripe's hosted checkout — Who's Down IRL™ does not store your full card number. We keep records such as a payment reference, subscription status, amount and time so we can support you and keep accurate records.
Stripe payment processing is a separate service from Stripe Identity, even though both are provided by Stripe.
Taxes and currency
Prices are shown in U.S. dollars. Where sales tax, VAT or GST applies, it is calculated and displayed at checkout before you pay. Your bank may apply its own currency conversion or foreign transaction fees, which we don't control.
Failed payments and disputes
If a payment fails, the associated action — starting verification, or continuing a paid hosting plan — will not complete until payment succeeds. If you believe you were charged in error, contact Support first; most billing issues are faster to fix directly than through a card dispute.
Where a chargeback is filed, we may restrict paid features associated with the disputed charge while it is resolved.
Changes to pricing
If pricing changes, the new price applies to purchases made after the change. For recurring plans we will give notice before a price change takes effect on your renewal, and you can cancel before it applies. This policy is part of the Terms of Service.
