Accessibility Statement
Effective August 24, 2026 · Last updated August 24, 2026 · Version 1.0
Everyone deserves a way in. Here's what we've built for accessibility, what still needs work, and how to tell us when something blocks you.
Our commitment
Who's Down IRL™ exists to help people get out of the house and meet real people. That should include people who use assistive technology. We aim to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a practical target, and we treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a finished checkbox.
What we've built in
- Reduced motion: the homepage intro and animations respect your operating system's reduce-motion setting, and returning members skip the intro entirely.
- Keyboard navigation: interactive controls are reachable and operable by keyboard, with visible focus styles.
- Screen readers: semantic headings and landmarks, labelled buttons and icons, and alt text on meaningful images.
- Readability: a color system chosen for contrast, text that scales with your browser's zoom and font-size settings, and mobile layouts that don't require horizontal scrolling.
- Forms: labelled fields with clear, text-based error messages rather than color alone.
Known limitations
Areas we're still improving:
- some third-party flows — payment checkout and identity verification — are rendered by Stripe, and their accessibility is controlled by Stripe;
- map and image-heavy discovery views may not convey every visual detail through text alone;
- member-uploaded photos may lack descriptive alt text, since it is supplied by members.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on Who's Down IRL™ is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us through Support. It helps to include:
- the page or feature involved;
- what you were trying to do;
- your device, browser and any assistive technology you use.
We take accessibility reports seriously and will work with you on an alternative way to complete the task while we fix the underlying issue.
